Caryn's Special Holiday Necklace
by Susan McGunnigle Condon

Our new neighbors, Nikki and Damien came over for eggnog on Christmas Day. We had a pleasant time. They sat and chatted with us and Brian and Caryn and Katie and Sean. Brian asked Damien and Nikki what they did for a living. Nikki said she was a jewelry designer for Ralph Lauren and some other very important places. Some of her work has been published in magazines. Damien added, "Nikki won Neckline of the Year Award for 2004". Pretty impressive. We all smiled and nodded.

Caryn, who had  been eating snacks in the kitchen during this conversation had evidentally not been paying too much attention to what Nikki had said. Nikki walked into the kitchen to chat with her. Caryn looked beautiful. She had on a very pretty red velvet v-neck shirt - she also had on a very unusual piece of jewelry. It appeared to be a thick plaid ribbon tied around h er neck with a little Christmas ornament on a string dangling from it.

Nikki said to Caryn "Tell me about this" as she pointed to Caryn's necklace. "I made it for a cookie swap", Caryn said. "I made it myself". "Oooooh" Nikki said. This was followed by a long awkward pause.

After Nikki left we all had fun laughing.
